Nvidia's strongest AI chip drives a surge in demand for passive components, benefiting multiple manufacturers

Mar 28,2024

Nvidia recently launched the Blackwell series of new products, which are the strongest artificial intelligence (AI) chips available today, including B200, GB200, and more. The industry has stated that the increase in AI server power is driving a 2-3 fold increase in the usage of passive components such as inductors, which is expected to benefit multiple Taiwan manufacturers. At present, passive component manufacturers such as HJC, WALSIN, Xinchang Electric, and YAGEO have seen their stock prices rise.

Nvidia AI servers have driven a surge in demand for inductors, especially high-end inductors, with unit prices of these products being 5-8 times higher than regular products. In addition, terminal applications such as AI smartphones and AI PCs will also drive the growth of the passive component market, especially MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitors), which is the most significant. The MLCC usage of AI PCs alone is 80% higher than that of traditional PCs.

Global MLCC giant Murata is optimistic about the recovery of the market for such products and expects a significant increase in capacity utilization. The industry is optimistic that the emergence of new AI smartphones and AI PC products will bring a new wave of device replacement, and peripheral components are expected to follow the recovery, with manufacturers generating the largest profits.
