Institution: It is expected that the global shipment of AI PCs will reach 48 million units by 2024

Mar 19,2024

The latest forecast released by research firm Canalys on March 18th shows that the global shipment of artificial intelligence computers (AI PCs) is expected to reach 48 million units in 2024, accounting for approximately 18% of the PC market. In 2025, it is expected that the shipment volume of AI PCs will exceed 100 million units, accounting for 40%. The institution predicts that the compound annual growth rate will reach 44% between 2024 and 2028, and the shipment volume of AI PCs will exceed 200 million units in 2028.

At present, Intel and other manufacturers have launched PC processors that integrate specialized artificial intelligence acceleration units (such as neural processing units). The industry expects AI PCs to unleash new productivity, improve efficiency, and achieve personalized functions.

Canalys analyst Ishan Dutt said that the widespread application of artificial intelligence acceleration chips in the field of personal computing will bring about change. AI PCs will bring higher energy efficiency, higher security, and lower costs associated with running artificial intelligence loads. This emerging computer category has opened up new areas of innovation for software developers and hardware suppliers, and will also bring eye-catching applications to consumers, education, and business scenario customers.

The institution predicts that compared to similar PCs without integrated NPUs, AI PCs will receive a premium of 10% to 15%. With the increase in occupancy rate, half of PCs priced at $800 or above in 2025 will support artificial intelligence computing, and this proportion will increase to 80% by 2028. This will help drive the overall value of the PC market to grow from $225 billion in 2024 to over $270 billion in 2028.
