Mar 22,2024

A fire broke out at Samsung SDI's factory in Qixing, South Korea on March 21st, and firefighters rushed to the scene in a timely manner. According to Samsung SDI, the cause of the fire was sparks generated during welding work. There were 27 workers on site, and all of them fled the scene after the fire, with no casualties.

After the fire broke out, Samsung SDI fire supervisors reported to the fire department, who rushed to the scene and spent about 20 minutes extinguishing the fire.

According to First Financial News, on March 22, the person in charge of Samsung Semiconductor stated, "This fire has nothing to do with its semiconductor business."

It is understood that Samsung SDI's main business is lithium batteries and electronic materials, and there is no semiconductor manufacturing business. The company announced on March 20th that it plans to mass produce all solid-state batteries as scheduled in 2027 and produce and provide samples by the end of 2026.

Currently, Samsung SDI is collaborating with Stellantis and General Motors in Indiana, USA to build two battery factories.
