Survey: Global technology mergers and acquisitions amounted to US$627 billion in the first half of the year, down 20% year-on-year

Aug 10,2022

According to the latest global survey by Ernst & Young, affected by international geopolitical and economic headwinds, the amount of global mergers and acquisitions in the first half of this year decreased by 27% compared with the same period last year; at the same time, the technology industry accounted for 31%, with an amount of US$627 billion.

The latest Ernst & Young global survey pointed out that the technology industry once again drove global mergers and acquisitions in the first half of 2022, down 20% from a record $789 billion in the same period last year to $627 billion, but still accounted for 31% of global M&A activity.

He Shufen, general manager of Ernst & Young Financial Management Consulting Services, said that the core position of technology in the M&A market should not be underestimated. The increasing demand for cloud services, information security, and enterprise software will drive the performance of M&A in 2021, and there is currently no sign of slowing down.

In addition, EY pointed out that global M&A activity has shown resilience in the face of major geopolitical headwinds, but it is uncertain whether more geopolitical tensions, economic downturns, etc. will occur in the future.
