Korean media: Samsung abandons finding new photoresist supplier for 3D NAND flash memory

Sep 22,2022

According to a report by South Korean electronics industry media The Elec on September 21, Samsung has canceled plans to increase photoresist suppliers. Photoresist is a key ingredient in the production of 3D NAND flash memory chips.

The company had approached at least four potential Japanese suppliers, including the world's largest photoresist maker, Tokyo Onika, the sources said. But none of these companies can meet Samsung's thickness requirements.

South Korea's Dongjin Semichem has provided Samsung with photoresists for nearly a decade so far, and will continue to be the sole supplier. But over the years, Samsung has tried to reduce its reliance on the company.
