Nvidia has completed the acquisition of Israeli startup Run: ai, acquiring software that can help smart computing device owners fully utilize their hardware.
Run: AI stated in a post on its website that the software is currently only compatible with Nvidia based systems and will be open source, meaning that others will be able to obtain the code and use it to adjust computers using Nvidia's competitor hardware.
Run: AI said, "We are eager to build on our achievements so far, expand our talent pool, and broaden our product and market coverage. Open source software will enable it to scale across the entire AI ecosystem
NVIDIA has become one of the most valuable companies in the world by winning the competition in providing key components for data centers that run AI services. Although other chip manufacturers have achieved rapid growth in this field, none can match Nvidia's quarterly revenue of billions of dollars from accelerator chip sales.
Nvidia declined to comment on the value of the transaction. The Israeli newspaper Calcalist reported in April that the transaction was worth $700 million. Nvidia's last major deal in Israel was the acquisition of Mellanox Technologies Ltd for $7 billion in 2020.
Nvidia announced the deal in April, stating that Run: AI has been working closely with Nvidia, headquartered in Santa Clara, California, since 2020. Run: ai was founded by Omri Geller and Ronen Dar in 2018.
