On February 28th, Intel announced that its promised $28 billion chip manufacturing plant in Ohio, USA, will face further delays, and the first plant in New Albany is currently expected to be completed by 2030.
The company stated that the first factory will begin operations at some point shortly thereafter, between 2030 and 2031, extending the initial schedule by at least five years.
Intel once offered a high price in an attempt to become a contract chip manufacturer for other companies in order to restore its lost glory, resulting in a tight balance sheet. Since then, Intel has been cutting capital expenditures.
Intel's General Manager of OEM Manufacturing, Naga Chandrasekaran, stated in a message to employees that these changes are aimed at aligning Intel's factory operations with market demand and managing capital responsibly. "We are taking a cautious approach to ensure that we complete this project in a financially responsible manner
Intel stated that its second factory in Ohio, USA, will be completed in 2031 and will begin operations in 2032.
