Infineon Introduces AIROC™ UWB TSL100 to Enable Secure Positioning and Intelligent Presence Detection

On June 25, Infineon Technologies AG unveiled the AIROC™ UWB TSL100, the company’s first family of ultra-wideband (UWB) devices designed for precise ranging and intelligent presence sensing. As the newest addition to the AIROC wireless portfolio, the TSL100 features a new architecture that delivers lower power consumption, enhanced security, and a scalable platform capable of supporting future UWB standards, including IEEE 802.15.4ab. The solution is also designed to comply with leading industry specifications such as FiRa, CCC, and Aliro.

The AIROC UWB TSL100 integrates secure ranging and sensing capabilities into a single chip, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications, including digital vehicle access, in-cabin occupant detection, building access control, contactless payment, ticketing, indoor navigation, asset tracking, and industrial collision avoidance. With this launch, Infineon further strengthens its position in secure connected systems while expanding its AIROC wireless portfolio with next-generation UWB technology for automotive, consumer, and industrial markets.

Modern applications such as vehicle and building access systems, indoor positioning, and asset tracking require reliable RF performance, accurate ranging under non-line-of-sight conditions, and extremely low power consumption. At the same time, strong protection against relay and man-in-the-middle attacks is essential for ensuring secure user authentication.

“Our AIROC UWB portfolio addresses these requirements by combining ultra-low power operation, excellent first-path dynamic range, and proven security at both the physical and application layers,” said Maurizio Skerlj, Senior Vice President of Authentication and Identity Solutions at Infineon. “The first-generation AIROC UWB TSL100 SoC delivers seamless access control, precise positioning, and intelligent sensing while reducing overall system complexity.”

The AIROC UWB TSL100 family consists of two variants. The TSL111A, qualified to AEC-Q100 standards, targets automotive OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers, while the TSL111C is designed for consumer and industrial applications. The automotive version supports use cases such as CCC Digital Key™, remote keyless entry, NCAP-compliant occupant detection, kick sensing, and intrusion detection. The consumer and industrial model is optimized for smart access systems, indoor navigation, asset tracking, contactless payment, and "Find My" applications.

By integrating both ranging and sensing into a single device, the TSL100 eliminates the need for separate sensing hardware in many applications, simplifying system architecture while reducing overall costs.

The AIROC UWB TSL100 delivers several key advantages for next-generation UWB applications. Its low-power architecture enables more than two years of operation from a coin-cell battery in CCC digital key implementations, while a dedicated ultra-low-power mode further reduces current consumption by over 50%.

The device also provides advanced security through its PHY design, achieving the highest FiRa and CCC security level of 48 bits even under challenging non-line-of-sight conditions, such as when a device is located inside a pocket. The system can accurately detect and verify direct signal paths that are up to 100,000 times weaker than reflected signals, ensuring robust protection against sophisticated attacks.

In addition, the RF architecture supports cost-effective sensing functions for applications including occupant presence detection, kick sensing, intrusion monitoring, and NCAP compliance. Infineon’s AIROC Intent Detection technology further enhances system-level performance by enabling configurable unlocking zones as well as inside/outside detection, improving access reliability while extending the battery life of Aliro-compatible smart locks.

To support product development, Infineon will provide an AIROC UWB TSL100 engineering sample kit that enables developers to rapidly prototype secure access and sensing applications. The kit supports comprehensive system evaluation, including ranging accuracy, sensing coverage, and power consumption measurements, helping accelerate both hardware and software development while reducing time-to-market for next-generation UWB solutions.
