Infineon and AWS Launch Cloud Platform to Accelerate Automotive MCU Evaluation

Infineon Technologies AG has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to streamline the evaluation of automotive microcontrollers (MCUs), helping developers shorten vehicle system development cycles. As part of the collaboration, Infineon is introducing a cloud-based evaluation platform powered by AWS that enables engineers to assess automotive MCUs without requiring physical hardware. By moving the evaluation process to the cloud, the platform reduces setup times from weeks to just minutes, lowers per-user costs, and supports hundreds of concurrent users worldwide. It also incorporates support for Infineon’s upcoming RISC-V-based MCU architecture.
“Development speed has become a critical competitive factor in the automotive industry, particularly in the era of software-defined vehicles,” said Thomas Schneider, Vice President of Software, Partnerships and Ecosystem Management at Infineon. “Traditional hardware-dependent MCU evaluation often slows down engineering teams. Our new cloud platform allows customers to access and evaluate our microcontrollers much earlier in the development process, which is especially valuable for next-generation devices such as our future RISC-V product families.”
The solution is built on AWS’s open-source Virtual Engineering Workbench, a platform already used by automotive and manufacturing companies for hardware virtualization, digital engineering workflows, and infrastructure management. Combined with Infineon’s semiconductor expertise, the platform delivers a fully cloud-native environment for virtual MCU evaluation.
Through a browser-based interface, users can begin working immediately without installing local software or tools. The platform provides a consistent user experience across different operating systems, while isolated cloud environments allow developers to test and experiment independently without affecting other users. Real-time feedback throughout the evaluation process helps accelerate decision-making and development.

The platform offers two primary operating modes. A “Quick Mode” allows users to rapidly test MCU functionality through pre-configured reference applications, making it easy to validate device capabilities. For more advanced users, an “Expert Mode” provides a complete browser-based virtual development environment that supports compiling, flashing, debugging, and performance analysis. This allows embedded software engineers to move seamlessly from initial evaluation to more advanced prototyping without installing local toolchains.
In addition, the platform introduces automation capabilities that enable Infineon’s product teams to package and publish new MCU variants with minimal effort, making them instantly available for customer evaluation. Integrated usage analytics provide insights into the most frequently tested MCUs and applications, helping guide future product planning and development strategies.
