On October 23rd, it was reported that Apple plans to invest $1 billion annually to integrate generative artificial intelligence (AI) into its product line.

With the rise of ChatGPT, an AI chat robot under OpenAI, and Bard, an AI chat robot under Google, almost all technology companies are striving to gain a share in the field of artificial intelligence.

However, compared to other companies such as OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, Apple's pace in artificial intelligence seems to be slower. When its competitors make significant progress in artificial intelligence technology, the company is basically on the sidelines.

But under the leadership of Apple CEO Tim Cook, Apple has recognized the importance of generative artificial intelligence. Previously, Cook revealed that the company had been researching generative AI technology and other models for many years.

However, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence caught Apple off guard. Since the end of last year, the company has been catching up to maintain competitiveness in the rapidly developing field of generative artificial intelligence.

In July of this year, an analyst who had long followed Apple stated that in order to gain an advantage in competition with competitors such as OpenAI and Google, Apple created its own framework called Ajax, which will be used to create a Large Language Model (LLM) comparable to ChatGPT and Microsoft Bing.

It is said that Apple has developed a chat robot similar to ChatGPT using Ajax, and the company's engineers refer to it as the "Apple GPT". This chat robot can summarize text and answer user questions, and Apple employees can access it through the internet. However, there is no indication that the company has plans to launch this product to the public.

According to reports, Apple has built many machine learning features for its services using Ajax, which have been implemented in Apple Maps, Siri, and certain search tools.

In September of this year, it was reported that Apple plans to integrate the big language model into Siri, allowing users to use the voice assistant to perform complex tasks, such as having Siri take a series of photos, convert them into animated images, and even send them to contacts. This feature is expected to be unveiled in iOS 18.

Last week, Jeff Pu, an analyst at Haitong International Securities, stated that Apple plans to start applying generative artificial intelligence technology on iPhones and iPads as early as the end of 2024.

According to the report, if carried out as planned, Apple may launch generative AI features starting from iOS 18 and iPad OS 18, but how it uses this technology remains to be seen.

In addition, it is reported that Apple is also exploring the integration of generative artificial intelligence into development tools such as Xcode, which may help developers develop applications for the Apple platform faster. In addition, the company is also considering providing new artificial intelligence features for Apple Music and its productivity applications.
