Semiconductor's revenue may decrease by 4.1% next year, and the Asia Pacific region is the worst performing region

Nov 30,2022

According to the prediction of the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics Organization (WSTS), the global semiconductor revenue may fall to 556.5 billion dollars in 2023, 4.1% less than this year; The sales of memory chips may decrease by 17%, which will be the product category with the largest decline. The Asia Pacific region will be the worst performing region this year and next.

WSTS released the latest semiconductor forecast report this (30) day. It is expected that the global semiconductor revenue this year is expected to rise to 580.1 billion US dollars, an increase of 4.4% over last year, lower than the 13.9% estimated in August.

WSTS said that due to the rising inflation and weak demand in the terminal market, especially the consumption expenditure, the agency specially lowered the semiconductor revenue forecast for this year. Divided by products, the revenue of memory chips may decline by 12.6%, becoming the worst performing field. The revenue of separated components, sensors and analog IC is still expected to increase by more than 10%, with growth rates of 12.4%, 16.3% and 20.8% respectively.

Globally, WSTS estimates that the US market revenue is expected to grow by 17%, which is the region with the largest growth rate; European and Japanese market revenues will grow by 12.6% and 10% respectively; The Asia Pacific market is the worst performing market, with revenue likely to decrease by 2%.

Looking forward to 2023, WSTS expects that the global semiconductor revenue may fall to 556.5 billion US dollars, which will decrease by 4.1%, lower than the original estimate of 4.6% increase. The revenue of memory chips may decrease by another 17%, which will still be the worst performing product. The revenue of separated components is expected to increase by 2.8%, the revenue of optoelectronics and sensors will increase by 3.7% synchronously, and the revenue of analog IC will increase by 1.6%.

The Asia Pacific region will still be the worst performing region, and the market revenue will decrease by 7.5% in 2023,; The US market revenue is expected to increase by 0.8%; Revenue in Europe and Japan will both increase by 0.4%.

IC Insights, a market research organization, believes that the global semiconductor sales are expected to grow by 3% in 2022 and set a new sales record of 636 billion dollars. However, due to weak demand, high inventory and other factors, the total sales of semiconductors are expected to decrease by 5% in 2023.
