In an effort to diversify its supply chain outside of China, Apple has confirmed that it has started production of the iPhone 14 in India, according to Digitimes.

Apple said in a statement that the new iPhone 14 series introduces ground-breaking new technology and important security features, and the company is excited to manufacture the iPhone 14 in India, according to Money Control.

Money Control, citing sources, said that India-made iPhone 14 deliveries will begin in the next few days from Foxconn's Sriperumbudur factory on the outskirts of Chennai. In addition, Bloomberg, citing sources, said that Apple started making the iPhone 14 in India earlier than expected as Apple and Foxconn accelerated the process after resolving supply chain issues.

Apple's suppliers started producing iPhones in India in 2017, starting with the iPhone SE. Currently, Apple manufactures the iPhone SE, iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 in India.

TechCrunch reports that JPMorgan analysts predict that India will account for 25% of iPhone production by 2025, adding that Apple will only produce the iPhone 14 in India due to more complex camera module alignment in the iPhone Pro series and higher local market demand /14Plus is suitable for iPhone14 series.

At the same time, DIGITIMES reported that sales of the iPhone 14 in China were not as good as expected, and Apple was adjusting the production share among contract manufacturers, with Luxshare Precision being the most affected.

Still, China will account for the majority of iPhone and global smartphone production for the foreseeable future, with Counterpoint Research estimating that China will produce 67% of the world's phones in 2021. In addition, according to Apple's 2020 Top 200 Supplier List, 96 suppliers headquartered in China account for nearly half of the total.
